Now I don’t know if its because I finally took my AnsetryDNA test ( I’m 34% Nigerian, and guess what I’m 5% Irish, take that St. Paddy or whoever), but my soul has been loving the current Nigerian artists swirling around on Beyoncé’s internet. Sidenote: did you know Sade, real name Helen Folasade Adu, was born in Nigerian. I you really do learn something everyday.
Lets look it who I’ve feel for.
Tobe Nwigwe– born Tobechukwu Dubem Nwigwe, although he was born in Houston, Texas, he is of Nigerian descent, Igbo ethnicity. Giving off old David Banner vibes. Tobe comes off aggressive but positive. His music and video always feature his wife rapper Martica “Fat” Nwigwe, children, and other family members.
Tems– born Temilade Openiyi in Lagos, Nigeria. Her deep throaty voice is so unique. She brings a distinct and fresh sound to music. Taking a risk, Tems quit her job and pursed her music career full-time.
Jacob Banks– was born in Nigeria but raised in Birmingham, England. He talent came to light after winning a few talent competition. Although he’s only 31, his voice reminds you of Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, filled with so much soul.
Wizkid– born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria with 12 sisters. His rising star put a spotlight on Afrobeats, a combination of Ghana and Nigerian music, that’s currently redefining the European music scene.
Tiwa Savage – born Tiwatope Savage, in Isale Eko, Lagos State, Nigeria and raised in London England. This beautiful sister holds a accounting degree from the University of Kent and once worked at The Royal Bank of Scotland. At the beginning of her career she sang backup vocals for George Michael and Mary J. Blige.
